Human Factors

This page provides 'doorways' into various Aviation Human Factors websites to promote the prevention of accidents and the continuous improvement of aviation safety. Accidents/Incidents associated with "human error" often reflect the failure to recognize human factors involving sensory, motor, and cognitive performance characteristics used to derive human engineering design criteria.

Flight Safety Foundation's Human Factors & Aviation Medicine - Flying safely does not begin or end in the cockpit. Physical and psychological conditions are important components of pilot performance. Required medical examinations set minimum standards, but they cannot guarantee that the pilot will stay in optimum condition. Maintaining physiological and psychological fitness ultimately is up to each individual; to that end, Human Factors & Aviation Medicine presents information important to the training and performance of all aviation professionals.

The CRM Advocate - The CRM Advocate was a ground breaking quarterly newsletter which served much the same audience as the Industry CRM Developers group. It was published from October 1993 until October 1996. These back issues of The CRM Advocate have been made available for publication on the Industry CRM Developers web site by Managing Director Captain Lou Nemeth.

NASA's Human Factors - The Human Factors Research and Technology Division advances human-centered design and operations of complex aerospace systems through analysis, experimentation and modeling of human performance and human-automation interaction to make dramatic improvements in safety, efficiency and mission success.

International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) - The ICAO Flight Safety and Human Factors Programme objective is to contribute to the products delivered by on-going ICAO activities through timely consideration of Human Factors issues. These include CNS/ATM systems; improvement of safety oversight; flight safety and accident prevention; and prevention of controlled flight into terrain (CFIT).

Royal Aeronautical Society Human Factors Group The RAS-HFG was formed as the Industry CRM Group to provide a multi-disciplinary focus for research, discussion and understanding of current and future CRM and broader Human Factors issues involved in aviation human factors training.

MIT Aeronautical Systems Lab – This is a university Human Factors program designed to prepare engineers for success and leadership in the Conception, Design, Implementation, and Operation (CDIO) of aerospace and related complex high-performance systems.

Ariane Information – A privately owned consulting international firm, specialized in safety matters offering assistance and solutions to airlines, training schools, airports, governments, civil aviation administrations and corporations. The organization provides Human Factors publications & videos.
