Due to the confidentiality requirements of discussing crewmember security procedures in a public forum, we will limit the material presented here for security reasons.
With the advent of a new reality and understanding in air transportation, crewmembers should be able to incorporate reasonable defensive tactics into their duties that no one can see or hear. Professional police officers through the years have learned that a lack of proper implementation of tactics can get them injured or killed. Although, there are differences between police and crewmembers, crewmembers need to learn various defensive tactics and implement them just as police have learned by the loss of ‘their own.’ Crewmembers have also lost some of ‘their own’ and need many of these important strategies offered in this course to get the edge they need.
The basic tactical principles we’ve developed in this course is directly related to many of the tactics used by police that many people are unaware are being used. We expanded these tactics to a crewmember application and we believe can make the difference in saving a crewmember’s life. We bring to the discussion in this course the actual experience of using tactics that have worked and worked well on the street and in other very dangerous situations.
Just some of the tactics we discuss in this course are:
How a Crewmember Stands
Hand Positioning
Talking with Passengers
Cart in Aisle Serving Drinks/Meals
Disturbance in the back of the Aircraft
Uncooperative Disruptive or Passenger in Seat
Important Actions during a Physical Confrontation or Serious Threat
Flight Attendant Taken Hostage
There is a definite psychological advantage for crewmember deploying tactics. The least of which will make crewmembers more confident in the job they are doing. It’s impossible to have a certain tactic for every situation, but a fundamental understanding of how tactics will work and how they are implemented in other situations will help crewmembers develop the correct mindset to stay alive. And for the purpose of our discussions here, staying alive is our main focus and motivation. Crewmember tactics involve thinking and using their brain to avoid dangerous situations or making them more vulnerable to attack from a terrorist or combative passenger.
These tactics are now, more than ever, important for crewmembers to learn in this new dangerous age of air transportation.
